USTA Junior Team Tennis

Junior Team Tennis (JTT) is a program of match play that brings kids together to play singles & doubles against other teams within a league. Players are grouped according to their general ability within different age categories. Players participating in this league should be able to serve, rally, and keep score. (Practices are not included.)

Junior Team Tennis (JTT) is a local program that is non – gender specific (teams aren’tt required to have a certain # of boys or girls).

  • A player may play 1 singles court & 1 doubles court per overall team match. A player may also play both rounds of doubles. However, a player may not play 2 singles courts in an overall team match.
  • A match may be played with as few as 3 players, or as many as 6. For example, if only 3 players are available (Ava, Bella & Connor), then in Round 1, Ava could play singles, while Bella & Connor play doubles. In Round 2, either Bella or Connor could play singles, and Ava would play doubles with the remaining player.
  • There are no restrictions on the max # of players, but a suggested team roster would be 8 players to ensure players get ample playtime. Roster size should be based on player availability.
  • Each player is required to play at least 2 different team matches, in order to advance to the State Tournament (spring season only). Retirements count toward the 2 matches, but defaults do not.
  • In order to receive a schedule, a team must have 5 players registered in TennisLink by the last day of team registration.

Volunteer Court Monitors

Each week during the season, volunteers are needed to help our 10 U Rec & 12 U Rec players as they learn to play matches. High School tennis players make great court monitors, and they can earn service hours. Adults can also be court monitors, but they need to complete their Safe Play certification first. High School students DO NOT need Safe Play certification. Click the button below to access the appropriate SignUp Genius.

Notes:

  • JTT uses the traditional tiebreaker method (not the Coman tiebreaker used in adult play).
  • The match winner is determined by the total # of games won.  As a result, it’s possible for a team to lose 3 of the 4 lines in a match, but still win the match, based on total points won.
  • No subs are allowed in JTT local play — all players must have a Junior USTA membership and be registered on the roster.

All players participating in USTA League are required to be USTA members. Junior memberships cannot be part of a family membership. Get your FREE USTA Junior Membership here.

Parent Managers & Coaches: Each team shall have a coach / manager responsible for the team & its administrative affairs and be in compliance with USTA Safe Play. Please remember, you will have to renew your NCSI Background Check every 2 years and your Safe Sport Education and Training (video) every year. To begin your Safe Play compliance and submit your background screen, please visit our JTT Manager & Parent Corner page here.

Age Eligibility

  • Spring season uses July 31 as the age cutoff.
  • Fall season uses November 12 as the age cutoff.

If a player wishes to play 10U, he/she must be 10 years-old on July 31.  If the player is 11, he/she must play 12U.
