About USTA Junior Team Tennis

USTA Junior Team Tennis brings kids together in teams to play singles, doubles and mixed doubles against other teams. It promotes social skills and important values by fostering a spirit of cooperation and unity, as well as individual self-growth. Also, it’s a fun environment for kids in which they learn that succeeding is really more about how they play the game – win or lose.
Lake Norman wil be participating in both Junior Team Tennis and Championship Junior Team Tennis during the spring season.  Fall season, we will offer only Junior Team Tennis.
Championship Junior Team Tennis (CTT) is a program with teams consisting of at least 3 boy and 3 girls that strictly follows the National regualtions.  Teams have the possiblities to advance to States, Sectionals and Nationals.  This program is offered to 10U, 12U, 14U and 18U age divisions in the intermediate and advance levels of play.  Recreational levels are not included.  This league plays girls singles, boys singles, girls doubles, boys doubles and mixed format.  Each player is required to play 2 matches ( defaults do not count) to be eligible to advance to States, Sectionals or Nationals.  Championship Junior Team Tennis will be played June 16-18 at Cary Tennis Park.  It will be played in a 3 day period.  Advance players will receive L3 points.  Select number of teams may advance to NC USTA JTT State Tournament.  Advance and Intermediate teams/players will register for this league and pay the league and tenislink fees. Look for Championship JTT league in tennislink to register.  10U and 12U intermediates teams will play in a tournament held June 2-4 here in Lake Norman.  Winners will advance to NC USTA JTT State tournament.
Junior Team Tennis(JTT) is considered a local program that is non-gender specific.  The matches consist of 2 rounds of 1 single and 1 doubles match.  Each player may play 1 singles line and up to 2 doubles lines per match.  Each player is required to play 2 matches to advance to the State Tournament.  Retirements count towards the 2 matches, but defaults do not.  A match can be played with as little as 3 players and a maximum of 6.  A team is required to have 4 players registered in tennislink by the last day of registration to receive a schedule.  There are no restrictions on the maximum number of players, but really a team should not have more then 8 players.  Scoring format (except for 8U)  that will be used is 1 6 game set with a 7 point tiebreak at 5-5 for 10U rec and 1 8 game pro set with a 7 point tiebreak at 7-7 for 10U int and above divisions.  The tiebreak must be won by 2 points. JTT uses the traditional tiebreak method and not the conan used in adults.  The number of games won determines who wins the match.  Each divisional winner will be able to advance to the State Tournament as long as they have the qualifing players.  This league is for 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U and 18U age divisions for both recreational and intermediate.
Substition Rule has been updated for Championship Junior Team Tennis.  You may substitute a boy or a girl at States, Sectionals or Nationals.  The number of subs have been reduced from 2 to 1.  JTT will not use subs at the State Tournament.  There iare no subs for either JTT or CTT in local play.
